Andre Campbell, MD, and a group of health care providers were asked to come to the White House for events to focus on gun violence
On June 7th, 2024, Andre Campbell, MD Professor of Surgery at UCSF and Vice Chair for DEI and a group of 80 health care providers were asked to come to the White House for events that focus on gun violence. There were several panels in the White House that day as well as victims of gun violence who attended this important function. This event was called “White coats at the White House” to dramatize all the work being done to care for victims of gun violence in the communities. Several groups were in attendance including advocates for gun violence, victims of gun violence, representatives from doctors for America. Trauma surgeons, emergency physicians as well as prehospital providers also in attendance to this important event. This event, it turns out, was a prelude to the recent release of the Surgeons General Report on Gun Violence In America which declared that gun violence is a public health emergency.
As part of the effort to bring attention to the national problem of gun violence. The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention held several days of meetings in Washington DC to help give executives who run hospitals, trauma providers and other advocates as well as gun violence victims’ information about the types of actions the federal government is taking to combat the Public Health Emergency of gun violence in america.
