Dr. M. Margaret Knudson Named Medical Director of ACS-MHS Partnership
The American College of Surgeons recently announced that M. Margaret Knudson, MD, FACS, Professor of Surgery and trauma surgeon at the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, has joined the Division of Member Services of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as Medical Director for the Military Health System (MHS) Strategic-ACS Partnership. The partnership was officially launched with the signing of a charter during Clinical Congress 2014. Dr. Knudson will oversee the partnership and assist with the development of education, systems-based practices, and research to maintain and advance the clinical knowledge and skills for assuring quality and readiness of the military health system.
Dr. Knudson has been actively engaged in the College's trauma activities as a leader and active participant in the Committee on Trauma (COT) at the national and state levels. She served as vice-chair of the COT from 2006–2010 during which time she helped develop the civilian-military surgical exchange program at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.
She conducts injury prevention research to improve outcomes for victims of trauma regionally, and to influence the field of injury control on a globally.
