The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Elizabeth C. Wick, M.D. and Jason H. Pomerantz, M.D. have been appointed Co-Chairs of the Department of Surgery Research Committee.
Dr. Wick is a professor of surgery in the Section of Colorectal Surgery. She is an experienced laparoscopic surgeon, treating the entire spectrum of colorectal conditions including diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colon and rectal cancer, anal cancer, and perianal disease with a patient-‐centered approach. Dr. Wick has contributed to the understanding of almost every aspect of perioperative care from teamwork and communication to organizational culture to quality improvement and measurement. She has been consistently funded by the NIH and leads a national collaborative, in partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and American College of Surgeons, around accelerating dissemination of surgical pathways across 4 surgical areas (colorectal, gynecology, orthopedics and emergency general surgery) over five years.
Dr. Pomerantz is an associate professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and surgical director of the UCSF Craniofacial Center. Dr. Pomerantz treats congenital and acquired deformities of the head and face, including cleft lip and palate, and traumatic facial injuries. Dr. Pomerantz’s NIH-funded research program focuses on the investigation of basic and translational aspects of tissue regeneration relevant to regeneration medicine. With foundations in muscle, stem cell and cancer biology, his laboratory aims to develop novel approaches that will impact the treatment of structural disorders and deformities. Dr. Pomerantz also has affiliations with the UCSF Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Graduate Program, and The Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCSF.
The Department also wants to thank the outgoing Chair of the Research Committee, Dr. Peter Stock, for his many years of outstanding leadership. Dr. Stock has helped to establish UCSF Surgery as one of the top research programs for surgical residents in the U.S.
Please join the Department of Surgery in congratulating Drs. Wick and Pomerantz on their new roles!
