Lucy Kornblith, M.D. Recipient of The Irene Perstein Award for 2019
Lucy Kornblith, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery in the UCSF Department of Surgery at ZSFG, is the 2019 recipient of The Irene Perstein Award for 2019, awarded by the UCSF School of Medicine to an outstanding, newly recruited, junior woman scientist.
This unique award honors the legacy of Ms. Irene Perstein, who donated funds to support junior women faculty at UCSF. The highly competitive award is based on criteria including the novelty and innovation of the science, and the potential impact on human health. This award supports Dr. Kornblith’s expansion of her investigations to include methodology specific to platelet genomics.
About Dr. Lucy Kornblith
Surgeon-scientist Lucy Zumwinkle Kornblith, MD is an Assistant Professor in the UCSF Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) and co-Chair of the Muriel Steele Society.
Dr. Kornblith completed her general surgery residency training at UCSF, remaining there to complete fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma & Emergency Surgery at ZSFG. She was previously awarded a Trauma Research Scholarship from the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), and a 5-Year $1M National Institutes of Health (NIH) K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Award to study to post-injury platelet biology. In addition, she was recruited as an investigator for Phase 2 of Landmark CLOTT Study.
