UCSF Medical Student Iris Liu Wins First Place in Medical Student Poster Competition for Basic Science Research at ACSCC 2019
Iris Liu, BA, a second-year medical student at UCSF, won first place in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress, Basic Science Category for her poster "Deep Immune Profiling of High- vs. Low-Risk Early-State Lung Adenocarcinoma."
The ACS Medical Student Program e-Poster Session included 48 medical students who presented their research in one of three categories: clinical research; basic science research; or outcomes, innovation, or education research. Surgeon and resident volunteer judges critiqued the presentations. First- and second-place winners in each category were formally recognized on October 28th.
Liu’s research is focused on studying mechanisms of resistance and recurrence in non-small cell lung cancer, with an emphasis on harnessing large-scale “omics" data to elucidate patterns of molecular alterations in the tumor and tumor microenvironment. She is pursuing her research in the Kratz Lab and Bivona Lab at UCSF.
