Garrett Roll Joins Division of Transplant Surgery

The UCSF Division of Transplant Surgery is pleased to announce that Garrett R. Roll, M.D., FACS, recently joined the division as Assistant Professor Of Clinical Surgery. Dr. Roll is a transplant surgeon specializing in kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation, and in hepatobiliary surgery. Dr. Roll attended Boston College as an undergraduate and received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at UCSF, where he also completed a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery. During his residency, Dr. Roll served as chief resident and conducted substantial research under the mentorship of Holger Willenbring, MD, PhD.

Prior to returning to UCSF, Dr. Roll was senior international fellow in liver transplant and retrieval at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, home to the busiest liver surgery unit in the United Kingdom. While there, he performed more than 60 liver transplants in 8 months following the receipt of his UK medical license. Dr. Roll’s research interests include liver cell therapy and regeneration and clinical outcomes research.
