James Iannuzzi, MD, MPH Awarded 2019 Surgical Outcomes Club Research Fellowship
James Iannuzzi, MD, MPH, an assistant professor in the UCSF Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, has been awarded the Michael Zinner Health Services Research Fellowship from the Surgical Outcomes Club (SOC).
This fellowship is aimed at providing dedicated mentorship in surgical outcomes research from leaders in the field. Fellows are paired with executive board members of the SOC for one-year with the aim of developing further skills, knowledge, and the network needed to execute high level clinical outcomes research. During this year, fellows are given the opportunity to present a project that has been executed under the guidance of their chosen mentor at the national SOC meeting.
Iannuzzi said the award would help advance his research into surgical outcomes in vascular disease:
I am very excited about this opportunity to interface with experienced national experts in surgical outcomes and expand my skill set in health services research. I aim to further explore cognitive dysfunction in patients with vascular disease and how these deficits dramatically alter the patient experience and journey. I plan to use this opportunity to increase awareness about the pervasiveness of dementia in vascular patients, and how even subtle changes to cognition can have devastating downstream consequences. This knowledge will be used to develop future interventions to alter their course.
The Division congratulates Dr. Iannuzzi on this important milestone in his research.
