Michael Conte, MD Named President-Elect of the Western Vascular Society
Michael Conte, MD, Professor and Chief of the UCSF Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, has recently been selected to serve as President of the Western Vascular Society for the 2020-2021 annual cycle.
The Western Vascular Society has released the following statement regarding the appointment:
Nominations Committee Names Dr. Michael Conte as President Elect of Western Vascular Society
At the 34th Western Vascular Society Annual Business Meeting at the Fairmont Kei Lani, Maui, Past President, Dr. Steven Katz announced the nomination of Dr. Conte to be the society President Elect for 2020.
After serving the society as Recorder for the past three years, and a valued member of the Program Committee for the same timeframe Dr. Conte was the best choice for the position. WVS has grown with the times to become one of the largest regional vascular societies with nearly the highest publication rate in the Journal of Vascular Surgery. This year the society broke records in the number of submissions (167), attendees at the conference (276) and the number of new members. Members and friends in vascular surgery look forward to sustained growth under Dr. Conte’s strong leadership.
The Edwin Wiley gavel will be presented to Dr. Conte September 2020 in Santa Monica, CA, when he officially closes the meeting as the society president. The gavel was created from oak from the land owned by society founder Dr. Stoney in honor of Dr. Edwin J. Wiley. Dr. Conte will preside over the executive council for the duration of the 36th Western Vascular Society Annual Meeting in Jackson Hole, WY, October 2021. It is appropriate to mention that other University of California titans in vascular surgery whose names are on engraved on the hearts of the members and the gavel include: Dr. Peter Schneider (2014) Dr. Linda Reilly (2010) and Dr. Ronald Stoney (1990).
